We believe education is the primary tool for empowering the children with whom we work. The Kumari Project has funded the education, educational materials – tuition, school supplies, test fees, school uniforms, and extracurricular art and performance activities of over 50 girls and boys from orphaned and/or impoverished backgrounds and earthquake victims.
All the children living at The Kumari Project Safe House attend a local secular private school. To see their first day at school, visit our blog. |
To supplement the Nepali education system, and to further engage and develop children’s literacy, confidence, and passion for learning, we offer visual and performance arts enrichment programs throughout the year. We believe strongly that arts education is the key to developing critical thinking skills.
We have partnered with local visual and performance artists, local art teachers, and foreign artists to offer the children extracurricular dance classes - everything from hip hop to Bollywood to traditional Nepali folk dance – and art workshops – everything from mural paintings to recycled paper collages to paper clothing using Lokta (a plant used to make handmade paper in Nepal). |
